What each AQA GCSE Religious Studies A paper assesses
AQA GCSE Religious Studies A (8062) is the larger of AQA's two GCSE Religious Studies specifications, first taught from September 2016, and it is built almost entirely out of choices. Component 1 is the systematic study of two religions from seven — Buddhism, Christianity, Catholic Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism — each covered for its beliefs and teachings and again for its practices, and each marked out of 48. Christianity and Catholic Christianity may not be combined. Component 2 is four themes: either four of the six religious, philosophical and ethical themes, or two of those plus the pair of textual studies themes on St Mark's Gospel, which are open only to students whose Component 1 religion is Christianity or Catholic Christianity. Because the two papers are equally weighted and every question is compulsory once the options are fixed, a student sits a paper on two religions and a paper on four themes, and no two centres need study the same six topics.
