AQA A-Level Religious Studies: questions and answers
Specification 7062. Two sets, because students and parents ask different things.
For students
Which religion do I study?
One, chosen by your school, from Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism. All five are in the guide as separate sets of topics, each named by the religion, so you work yours and skip the rest.
What is in Component 1?
Philosophy of religion in Section A and ethics in Section B, both compulsory. That is thirteen topics and 670 questions covering the arguments for God, evil and suffering, religious experience, religious language, miracles, self and life after death, the ethical theories, issues of human and animal life and death, meta ethics, free will, conscience, and Bentham and Kant.
What are the dialogues?
Sections B and C of Component 2. Section B is the dialogue between your religion and philosophy of religion, Section C the dialogue between your religion and ethical studies. Both are examined as their own sections and both are in the guide as their own topics.
Do I need to know scholars by name?
Yes. The questions ask for specific positions and the people who held them, and the guide asks for them by name with the argument attached.
How long does one session take?
About twenty minutes for one subtopic, all three steps. Topics run from 14 to 151 questions, so work by subtopic.
Can I do it in my head instead of writing?
Write. A ten-mark part wants an accurate, complete account of a position, and step 2 is where the gaps between your version and the printed one get fixed. The method page sets out the evidence.
When should I start?
7062 is linear, so both papers are sat at the end of Year 13. Philosophy and ethics are normally taught first and are 50 per cent on their own.
Do I still need past papers?
Yes. Past papers train the fifteen-mark evaluation and the three-hour clock. AQA publishes them free.

What is this, in plain terms?
A PDF of 3,683 exam-style questions covering the whole of AQA A-Level Religious Studies including all five religions, with the answers printed after each topic.
My child only studies one religion.
That is correct. Component 2 is one religion chosen by the school from five, so all five are in the guide and four are skipped. In practice a student works about a third of the file.
Is this a devotional book?
No. It is an exam preparation tool. The questions set out the positions, arguments and scholarship as the specification examines them, including positions that disagree with each other.
How do I check it is the right course?
The specification code is on the exam timetable. AQA A-Level Religious Studies is 7062.
How do I know if it is being used properly?
There should be handwritten answers on paper and three passes over the same questions, and two scores per session to compare.
How much is it compared with a textbook?
£8.00 for the whole specification including all five religions. An endorsed A-Level Religious Studies textbook is usually £25 to £35 and covers one component.
How much time does the whole course take?
275 subtopics at roughly twenty minutes each is about 92 hours for everything, and closer to 36 once the four unstudied religions are skipped.
