What each AQA A-Level Chemistry paper assesses
AQA A-Level Chemistry (specification 7405) is assessed by three written papers taken at the end of the two-year course, each lasting 2 hours. Paper 1 covers inorganic chemistry and most of physical chemistry, and Paper 2 covers organic chemistry with the physical topics that underpin it, both carrying 105 marks. Paper 3 carries 90 marks and can draw on any content, with questions on practical techniques and data analysis alongside multiple choice. Practical skills are assessed across all three papers and separately through the practical endorsement.
